Plain-English privacy policy. Last updated April 25, 2026. We follow Google AdSense's program policies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
What we collect
- Anonymous usage analytics via Google Analytics 4. Includes pages viewed, approximate location (country/region only — IP is anonymized), referring site, and device type. No personally identifiable information is collected.
- Calculator inputs (state and monthly bill) are processed entirely in your browser. We log only that a calculation was run, not the values you entered, unless you have explicitly consented to analytics cookies.
- Affiliate clicks are tracked via UTM parameters appended to the destination URL. The destination site (e.g., EnergySage, SunPower) handles your data per their own privacy policy.
- No email is collected at any point on this site. Period.
Cookies and similar technologies
- Strictly necessary cookies: remember your consent choice and any UI preferences (e.g., dismissed banners). Always on, no consent required.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics. Off by default; turned on only after you click "Accept all" on our consent banner.
- Advertising cookies: Google AdSense for personalized ads. Off by default in EU/EEA/UK; turned on only after consent. We use Google Consent Mode v2 to enforce this.
Third parties we use
- Google AdSense — display advertising. Google's privacy policy. You can opt out at google.com/settings/ads.
- Google Analytics 4 — site usage measurement. GA4 opt-out browser add-on.
- Firebase Hosting — site infrastructure (Google Cloud). Logs server access for security/abuse prevention only.
- EnergySage / SunPower — affiliate marketplaces. We pass no personal data; clicking these links sends you to their site, which then collects information per their own policies.
Your rights
EU/EEA/UK residents (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Withdraw consent at any time (re-open the banner via the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer).
- Request access to data we hold about you (we hold no individually-identifiable data, but you may verify this).
- Request deletion of any data we hold (again, none — but you may verify).
- Lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
California residents (CCPA)
We do not "sell" personal information as defined by the CCPA. AdSense and Analytics may use cookies for measurement and personalization, which California considers a "sale" under some interpretations. You can opt out by clicking "Decline" on the consent banner, which sets ad_storage and analytics_storage to denied via Google Consent Mode v2.
Data retention
Google Analytics retains anonymous event data for 14 months. We do not retain any data ourselves on our servers beyond standard web access logs (90 days, security purposes only).
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when we change anything material. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the change. For substantial changes, we'll display a notice on the homepage for 30 days.
